Comments: I'm returning to SA on June 5 from London (Hectic place) and have a passion for the bush! Every opportunity I get I stray from humankind to be at one with nature. I'm very interested in volunteering or working at Lodges or camps, if someone could contact me, I have experience in the hospitality industry as well.
My favourite animal has to be the majestic Elephant, I've had very personal and breath taking experiences with some Kruger Elephants - Silent Giants!

Comments: hi,
If you wanted to know more about the masai, you had to look to "VT4", a television post of flanders. that's a beautiful programme, "Stanley's Route". 10 famous flamish people who had to survive in Tanzania. Daudi and Marangu and their wifes Naha and Eshter came to Belgium. you can see an article on http://www.nieuwsblad.be/Article/Detail.aspx?articleID=GCDF1VQP .
good luck!

I was over the wound care clinic, I treated any one from Children to the elderly. We the people in the United States, take things for granted. The last day in Kenya we went on a safari, that was cool- we saw anything from a group flamingo to zebra - It was awsome.....

Don't wine just accept that people bouncing up and down no matter what it means to masai culture for us is a funny sight even if I respect you.

My favourite African animal is by far the Cheetah. This is such a beautiful graceful and proud looking cat. I adore Cheetahs. The Servals are also cool. All wild cats are cool but should stay FREE in the wild where God intended them to be to be happy with a LIFE worth living.

Best wishes

A day on the Masai Mara
We would like to share with you a typical day's experiences for us on safari with an extract from a journal of our most recent visit to Kenya. Maybe you have been lucky enough to enjoy a similar experience we hope that it will bring happy memories flooding back and whet your appetite for another safari very soon.

It's 6.30am ,the two of us are at our vehicle, and greetings are warmly exchanged with our guide and long time friend James.

As we leave the camp and drive out into the Masuira marsh, territory of the Bila Shaka Lion pride of "Big Cat Diary" fame. The sun is just rising on the horizon, a huge ball of fire painting the sky with a flush of lilac and gold. Maribu storks stand silhouetted like sentinels at the top of the Arcacia trees, waiting for the warm thermals to help lift their huge ungainly bodies high into the sky, transforming them into graceful aeronauts. As we pass herds of inquisitive Topi, Thompson and Grants gazelles, we hear the not too distant short panting roars of a lioness as she calls her cubs to heel. Revelling in the crisp morning air, we tingle with anticipation for our day ahead in the bush. With packed breakfasts and lunches stowed in the cool box and copious flasks of tea and coffee, cameras loaded and at the ready, we are all set for our day ahead in the bush.

As we drive on the tracks that take us through the tall grass covered plains, the only accompanying sounds are the gentle cooing of the seemingly ever present Laughing Dove and call of nearby Zebra as they reassemble their ranks after the night's vigil.
James suddenly stops the engine, out with the binoculars, what has he spotted?
He restarts the engine and heads purposefully and quietly toward a large Fig tree beside a Lugga. Leopard!

She has taken several kills (white European Storks) up into the branches where she now sleeps, resting her head on the soft white breast of one of them, using it as a pillow. We stop, quietly we set up our cameras, it will be some time before she wakes, we will wait it out however long it takes, the shots we will get should be fantastic. Meanwhile as the sun rises higher, burning away small patches of morning cloud, promising another glorious day on the Mara, we partake of some tea. As the two men talk softly and companionably I sit alone at the back of the open sided vehicle, sipping the hot sweet drink, enjoying the total peace and beauty. I catch sight of a small herd of Topi bachelors testing their strength in mock battles, two Hyena’s wend their weary way back to their dens after the nights hunt, bellies bloated after the feast. The Yip-Yip of Zebra can be heard together with the soft sound of a Ring Neck Dove, somewhere a Hoopoe joins in the chorus. I want to stay here forever! Suddenly my reveries are broken; it’s cups down, all hands to the cameras. She has woken! After an impressive yawn and stretch she starts to feed, the following shots are magical! Well worth the wait, our best shots of the beautiful cat to date. Two films and half an hour later, she settles down again to groom and then sleep the meal off. We decide to depart for our breakfast too.

Later as we enjoy our bush breakfast beside the great Mara River , we are all kept amused by the antics of a Tawny Eagle. Silently it swoops gently and deftly extracts Dennis’s breakfast sausage from his fingers. Whilst Dennis and James talk together as they finish their meal, I sit in the shade of a large umbrella Arcacia on the river bank, watching a pod of Hippo with a tiny new calf. A Large Nile Crocodile basks in the sun on the opposite bank and above me; chattering weaver birds socialise and repair their nests.

As the day progresses, we have lunch interrupted by a magnificent Bull Elephant, who insists on paying us a very close visit. We evacuate somewhat hastily with picnic to the vehicle to await his departure back toward the river (more excellent shots!) The afternoon brings more excitement as we find a beautiful female Cheetah with two obligingly photogenic cubs, the Bila Shaka pride show off their newest cubs and a huge herd (some 200 or so) Buffalo condescend to pose magnificently amid the tall Savannah grasses As the Sun dips lower in the sky we make our way back to camp for our sun-downer. Whilst we sit by the river and watch the sun set over the Mara, we contemplate tomorrow's adventures. James will take us on the long drive through the Maasai reserve to the beautiful Aitong hills to observe the White Rhino and whatever else should cross our path enroute, (incidentally there was plenty).

Comments: Jambo people from masai-mara.com
My name is Ivon and i'm from holland. Past summer i've been to Africa. I was very fascinated by its beauty and the animals. But also by the Masai tribe... Now i'm in school again and i have to make this big project about my fascination. I've chosen the masai tribe as my fascination. (i'm in university now, so you will understand it is a big project)
My question for you is: ( mayb i am at the wrong place) can you maybe give me some more information about this tribe? or a link to somebody who knows, ore a site where i can find more? My main question is.. How come these Masai people still live like 100 years ago? everyday there are so many tourists visiting their villages.. and they still live like that. I can't understand this.

My guide during my safari in africa told me that elephants when they are old and dieing.. they leave their group to die alone.. after he told me this he told me that the masai-men do exactly the same.. is this true? and how does it work...

I hope you can give me some advise and help.
If you can't just thank you for reading my e-mail.

Kind regards, Ivon van den Aker.

My web page is in preparation, and should be operational in January. I love to watch animals, and my favorite in Africa are elephants. Why? They very large! They get my attention. But in spite of their size, they are very graceful. Their behavior is very complex, and watching how they act towards each other, young elephants, and other animals is very fascinating to me. Also, they work hard for survival. Poor souls must eat for a bulk of the day just to make it. The big cats sleep all they, hunt for a few minutes, eat, and they sleep again. What a life!

Comments: Hi!
I've been visiting Kenya for quite a few years now, especially Amboseli and Tsavo region. I've been twice to Masai Mara, but unfortunately, heavy rains prevented me to enjoy the place as much as I would love too.
I'm planning to visit the area by the end of this year for a minimum of 8-10 days. I'm a non professional photographer, but I'm working on a book project about flora and fauna of Kenya. Of course, my favourite animals are big cats (especially leopard) but I really enjoy any kind of encounters ranging from impalas to giraffes, including black and white rhinos. I'm a keen birder too, that why Kenya is a hotspot for me. But most of all, I enjoy the very special encounters like the nocturnals (hyenas: spotted/striped/brown, aardvark, pangolin, porcupine), small cats (caracal, serval, golden, wild cat...) or small unsual sightings (honey badger, zorilla, mongooses...)

Kind regards,

Bruno

Comments: I find it ironic and unbelievable that the description for Wild Dogs would include a sentence explaining their needless torture and murder, really, by IGNORANT human beings, for reason of "their ruthless killing". I AM FULLY AWARE OF HOW THESE ANIMALS FEED. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AROUND YOU, THE "WARS", THE RAPE AND TORTURE OF WOMEN, THE SO-CALLED TROPHY HUNTERS... I could go on and on. These tragedies occur out of ignorance, mental instability, and greed. Wild Dogs are only trying to EAT. I'll bet being taken alive and consumed, as gruesome as it sounds, would be a blessing for some of the human victims enduring unspeakable murder, torture, rape, and soul-killing of innocents in Africa, or here, for that matter. Wild Dogs are only trying to survive, As far as rabies, parvo virus, and distemper, blame the idiots with their poor domestic dogs. Why isn't this description re-worded? These dogs suffer enough from a level of human ignorance that cannot be defined. If you want to educate people about the Masai Mara, then do it. Shame on you.

It is between Kisii and Oyugis, with a few volunteers, who are treating people there, making healthcare education for children and adults, etc.
I'm planing to have the website ready at the end of February, that I can fly to them right after.
They really need any kind of help, they have almost no recources, so if you are able to do something, it would be appreciated!
Sincerely,
Denes Ludmany

Comments: I want to learn Swahili.
I have a book and cassette tapes on Swahili and downloaded lessons, but the two do not always agree, of I do not understand. I have friends from Rwanda that say the book and tapes are better. Unfortunately they live far enough away that I cannot get with them to learn on a personal basis.
Lion, because he is majestic.
