Comments: I love elephants, because of their ponderous grace, bizarre appearance, intelligence, sensitivity and family life. I found this site because I was very frivolously making up a nonsense story with a friend in which our heroes took a jaunt to Africa, and I thought it would be more fun to find out about a real place they might go than to just make things up at random. Now I am quite sure I want to visit the Masai Mara myself if I get the chance. Thank you for providing an informative site.

My favourite animals, i love every one animal other than human and exceptionally love the BIG 5 and in that 5 particularly the ELEPHANT. Why - because of its gentleness and intelligence and the size or it. Big is Beautiful.

Comments: I stumbled across your website while searching for conservation efforts that are currently in progress within Africa. For some time now I have been attempting to contact organizations with close ties to field researchers, national parks and conservationists in Africa that are in need of assistance. I am interested in doing volunteer field work for a period of 3-12 months. I was educated at Kent State University in the US where I studied zoology and animal behavior. Since then I have worked at various small zoological parks, and for the past two years I have owned and operated a zoological breeding facility here in the states that supplies many AZA and Non-AZA zoo's with exotic cats. I have a lot of experience breeding, bottle raising, and training african leopards, lions, servals, caracals, and various other African derived species.

Their battle against poachers and modern encroachment is most unfortunate, but their survival is nonetheless critical for the Savannah ecosystem. Comments: The site is wonderful with wonderful, especially for those who have never experienced living in the wild.

More efforts should be made by the International community (human race) to save animal species that are fast dissapearing from the face of the world.

Comments: In reponse to Fran on Oct 23, 2003 asking about Catherine Oddie... I have just visited Robert in his home location. Catherine has not been in contact with Robert since she left Loita after completing the book and doing all the TV and magazine publicity - she has not answered any of Robert's mail after more than 10 years. She is a woman that should be thoroughly ashamed of herself!

I know you can't guarantee an answer, but I was hoping you'd be able to point me in the direction of a Kiswahili teacher in Norfolk.

I fell in love with the country on my first visit this year. I am now desperate to persuade my husband, who was brought up in Kenya, that he really has to go back like all his contemporaries are doing. If I spoke basic kiswahili as well as he does this would be an advantage.

What would you suggest?

Asante sana.

Best wishes,
Linda

Comments: Hi, LOVE your web site! I'm also here to represent the Iberian Lynx of Portugal & Spain, whose numbers are down to only 135 in the wild, and, of those numbers, only 22 breeding females are left! Experts estimate that the Iberian Lynx may well be extinct by October of 2005 or at least within the next 18 months. They used to have 48 breeding sites and now they have only 2! If the Iberian Lynx does go extinct it will be the first wild cat in the West to do so since the Sabre-Toothed Tiger 12,000 years ago. If you buy wine, please buy only bottles that have cork in them because that is incentive for the governments # companies to preserve the cork forests which is one of the habitats of these lynx. They are already in the first stage of extinction. Their numbers are so low that inbreeding has already started# there is already abnormal sperm and also the recessive gene of the darker coat for the Lynx. The threats to these lynx include poaching, dam-building, road-building, golf-course-building, human encroachment, lowered immunity to fight diseases (as a result of inbreeding--a recent unknown illness killed a number of Lynx when each one is precious), forest fires, and loss of their main prey (hare which was devastated by a man-introduced disease that devastated the hare population). If you would like to know more about the Iberian Lynx and how you can help them, you can go to the web site WWW.SOSLynx.org. Thank you for this opportunity. I pray that you will find it in your heart to help the Iberian Lynx. God bless/Peace Faith Shives

The tribe I work with, the Ik, have always lived on the edge of starvation because the Ugandan government of Idi Amin pushed them off their original rich hunting grounds to create a national park. I love ALL the animals of East Africa's beautiful fauna, but Africa's PEOPLE should never be sacrificed in favor of its animals wherever and whenever the two come into conflict.

Comments: I went to Kenya this Summer, Had the best time of my life.
I went on safari as well as a beach holiday in Mombasa.

My tip for anyone going to kenya on safari and holiday.

It would not have been possible without the company we arranged it through, as we heard many horror stories from other Tourists that booked with the wrong tour companies.

My tip for anyone going to kenya on safari and holiday. Get a respected tour company once you get to Kenya as the locals will tell you which ones are good. Do not book your safari over the net.

If any one is going there I would suggest you book your holiday through Platinum Car hire and Tours http://www.platinumsafaris.com I highly recommend them.

They did the job well and right. I will never forget Africa.

Its just easy to read the word in any languages and you will get the right answer. in Swahili/Arabic the right pronounce its read like Daar As Salaam (Which original words are means the peace house in arabic) I hope this explanation will help you to understand and love the east african culture. My favorite animal are Giraffe (Twiga in swahili) because it symbolizes the african wild and it has choozen to be the tanzania national animal (Moto)

Comments: I have visited Masai Mara on many occasions, the first being in 1964 when I worked near Musoma in Tanzania. I think that the lodge at keekorok was completed in 1965 and I have spent many happy days there during the ensuing years. When I want to think of Africa this is the place that always comes to mind. The wild life is magnificent particularly during the migration in late July or August. All people who value the wonder of nature should visit here: they will not be dissappointed. It goes without saying that the lions are noble and are in a category of their own: however I do have a sneaking regard for the much-loathed hyena. They often show great courage.
