Comments: I think there should be more about the maasai people and the actual enviroment and what it's like for them. My favourite animal is a lion as they are georgous. Please put more about them as people don't know how bad their lives are and might want to come and help them. Life isn't always about money but about happiness. Give that to the maasai tribe.

I have met my granddaughter's father, and his mother (the other Nyanya) and strangely feel that now I am somehow connected to people in a place I have never been to. My granddaughter, at nearly two, is familiar with Swahili, English and Swiss German. I like the language, and would like to learn it. I am also interested to learn more about the people and place. Seeing photos of my proxi extended family members gives me a longing to go there. Especialy if it can be timed to coincide with my daughter and granddaughter's first visit next year. Economic situations being all relative, that may not happen for me... but I aim to be prepared.I like most animals, and am not as familiar with all the animals in Kenya to make a choice.

Comments: THE MASAI MORANI DANCE GROUP
Jacob Paringo
C/O Didan Eliampenda
P.O. Box 62500
Mabibo
DAR ES SALAAM

21/9/02

Dear Mr.
A sort story about the masai
Misai, a people of E Africa, mainly in Kenya and Tanzania. They are mostly nomadic pastor lists, living off the milk, blood, and meat of their livestock. Men are initiated into the warrior age group, which is responsible for herding cattle and killing lions and other predators. The Misaim has been particularly resistant to many of the cultural changes occurring in Africa.
The Masai Morani Dance Group was formed in Oct 2001 with the intention of bringing the traditional world of the Masai to the doorsteps of Hotels, Safari Lodges and other places of exhibition, for the enjoyment and education of tourists, foreign visitors, and, indeed, fellow Tanzanians. The fifteen members of the Masai Morani Dance Group are all Masai warriors (Morani) from traditional villages (manyattas) in Masailand of Tanzania. The traditional Masai dances that we perform are part of our everyday life in the manyatta, whether for ceremony or for our own enjoyment. The dances are exciting, colourful, and evocative, and provide an informative and fun evening's entertainment for the audience. The dances can be performed in a hotel foyer, in a restaurant, by the poolside or in the gardens of the facility. Because of our tradition, we require no electricity or electronic musical instruments for these performances. One or more of the warriors can converse in English, and will be happy to answer any questions about our lifestyle and culture.
In order to expand our group's reputation, its activities and to widen the areas to which we can travel for performances, The Masai Morani Dance Group is seeking sponsorship for the following reasons:
We are currently only able to charge our hosts a nominal payment, as we are not yet famous enough to command high fees! The money we receive is split equally among the group, and is barely enough to cover the costs of transport (from the villages to the venue and return), food, and overnight accommodation - and this is only within the Dar es Salaam area. We wish to travel out to lodges, camps and hotels in the wildlife tourism areas to perform, but we are unable to do so at present.
We wish to advertise in popular magazines and journals, and also to produce our own quality brochures and flyers. Currently, we are not able to afford to do this.
We wish to have a portable stand or stall, and to fill it with traditional Masai items and artefacts, which will then be offered for sale at the venue (sales would provide profit and generate funds for restocking the stall). We are not able to afford to construct such a stall, or to purchase a sufficient stock of items to make the exercise worthwhile.
We are therefore seeking sponsorship to assist us in overcoming the difficulties outlined above. We would prefer physical and logistic support, rather than cash payments, as this would provide direct support where it is needed, and would not need to be justified and accounted for as would cash sponsorship. For example, a vehicle donated, on loan or made available for transportation; the design and printing of brochures for self-distribution, and the placing of advertisements in tourist magazines and trade journals; and the provision of a stall and the initial stocks of items for resale.
We hope that your company or organisation is willing and able to help us in this venture. Please do not hesitate to contact us at the addresses above, for further discussions or clarification.
Please note that for those potential sponsors who show interest, we will be arranging an invitation performance to demonstrate our dancing and other aspects of our tradition.
We look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours Truly,
Jacob Paringo ole Ndiriamba
Group Leader.

Comments: your site is wonderful, I absolutely love your pictures, they took my breath away and brought tears of joy to my eyes. They filled my heart with hope that i'll someday see Kenya, all of Africa, and the rest of the world. As it has been said a picture really is worth a thousand words. I'm slightly scared of going to kenya, for the sole reason that I don't think I'll want to come back to canada. my home will always be where my heart is, and i know that when i go to kenya, it will not only steal my breath, but a piece of my heart too. In return it will fil me with the vigor and inspiration to return, and to continue seeing the world. My favorite African animal would have to be the Zebra, because it reminds me of horse, which i so love to ride. I also love all the big cats, leopards, lions and cheetas. i love giraffes because they are so tall and they amaze me. and also elephants for being so gentle, when they could just squash us. hehehe. Again, thankyou for posting these pictures, and i hope that you post some more. i'll be coming back to see them often enough. Cristha.

Comments: Nice page you have here. Summer 2002 I spent in Nairobi with my friend's family. I enjoyed my trip to Masai Mara so much. We went there with our own car, which I don't recommend if you dont know the place, cause our car broke down in the middle of nowhere. Finally we find a place to stay over and some guides to show us the animals. I loved the lions, they are so magnificant animals. It was my dream to come true to see lion family eating and playing just in front of me. Lions are the symbol of freedom and wildness for me.

We are also having real problems trying to form adjectives. Adjectives for nouns which begin with n, l, t, u, a, b, c,, r, v, g use which prefixes? We can't seem to find a grammar book which gives the prefixes for these adjectives. Is there a general rule? Many thanks. Frank

Comments: As a local born Kenyan, i have visited the Masai Mara for at least 16 times in the past 5 years and have virtually stayed stayed at almost all the lodges. The Leopard is my favoutite animal and the most spectacular event obviously is the Wildebeest migration - an event not to be missed. I love the Masai Mara and will gladly return on any given opportunity. Finally, hats off to all the tour van drivers - you do a great job - thanks.

Comments: Jambo, habari? We visited Kenya a few weeks ago when it rained on a sunday ( the whole day ) and all the DUDU's came out!! We stayed at Diani, Neptune Paradise, and visited Tsavo east and West, and Amboseli. We did not visit masai mara, so I really want to return to Kenya and visit this park! I fell in love with your beautiful country and it's lovely people!! I have to return anyway, because we did not see the Cheetah, my absolute favorite animal, the way it's build to be a natural predator. I also like the colobus monkeys. (mbega) so, kwaheri!!!! greetings from holland, Pascalle

Apart from the years that I stayed in USA during my study, I had also lived in the USA for the past 6 years. But right now, I´m in Spain and learning Spanish. When I was in USA, I´d worked for a company who organized tours (tour operator) to Asia & Europe. I´m deeply interested in knowing Africa; of which it is one of my dream destination. I would like to inquire if you´ve any opening in this summer for I would like to use my language ability (I speak Chinese & English fluently, and some Spanish) and as well as my experience in the traveling industy; as to inquire a position in your company. Thank you for your attention and looking forward to hearing from you soon. Aries Ng

Incidentally, the hoopoe interests me because of its folkloric associations! Comments: I am a Kenyan, born and residing in this wonderful country. I have read and heard alot about Maasai Mara but unfortunately l have never visisted the park despite my immense interest, this is because l have always assumed that this is a Tourist park beyond my league. Please advice about your rate and any other considerations you give to local residence.

Comments: Your website is a pleasure to browse, well-constructed and useful in facts. Mine is due for an update soon after mid-Feb 2003; it has dozens of diverse topic sub-pages. My favorite animal is the rare and genetically endangered Cheetah, primarily because it is so beautiful in form.
