Comments: One word: WONDERFUL. I had the pleasure of visiting Kenya this year and enjoyed every minute of it, especially the Masai-Mara. Also visited a Masai village. Very friendly people. Took about 600 pictures in 1 1/2 week. Hope Kenya will never lose its beauty and animals. Will most certainly return, by preference during migration period.

Comments: Attended school in Eldoret, Kenya 1962-65, while living in Marampa-Uganda. Most of children over 11 were sent to boarding school in Kenya because of the standard of education, I can truthfully say they were the best years of my life (although, I did not appreciate it at the time) the memories of the early morning fog, wonderful scenery and abundance of wildlife (trying to clear the hockey pitch of game before we could play). Visiting the masai at half-term, and Never, Never forgetting the wonderful smiling faces of every Kenyan you met. It will stay with me forever, and in the words of Roger Whittaker (who made one of the most memorable films I have ever seen on Kenya, cried all the way through it) I WILL RETURN

Comments: Great Site, Masai Mara is the most exciting place I have ever visited. My mom is a native Kenyan so I must have an inherent love of the land. The zebras were funny, running away or not moving at all depending on their mood. I love the closeness of the animals, the food at Mara Simba (the resort we stayed at), the showers and most of all the monkeys stealing my bread at dinner time.

Comments: Hi there,I'm a student and I'm in my last year (teacher for little children). This year we have to make a script (I don't know if this is the right word). My subject is music and drama. I wanted to work something out about the Masai people. I bought several books and I visited Kenya in august, I even visited Masai Mara but I don't think that I've seen the authentic Masai people. I have found a lot of information about them but not enough to give the children some lessons about them. The meaning of this paper is that I write a lot of theory about the Masai people, wild life and his animals and also a little bit of Kenya. I have to work out some lessons: for example: music lessons with the music and how they dance, move, the meaning of different dances. I know by now that they don't use instruments and I have taped a little bit on video. But this is not enough. Could you tell me where I can find some real authentical music and videos of the Masai people. If it excists. I would be grateful if you could help me.Friendly greetings,Zahia Ghamrane

Interesting site you have - we (my wife and I) visited Kenya and Tanzania in Feb of this year, and spent some time in the Mara - our guide was a Masai called Erasto. We enjoyed our time there immensely, and hope to be able to visit there again.

Comments: I loved looking at all the animal photos. I became interested in the maasai when the (Australian) TV show '60 minutes' showed an Australian girl - Catherine Oddie, marry a maasai warrior named Robert, and she changed her name to Nasha Oloimooja. Catherine wrote a book about her life with the maasai called 'enkop ai' (my country). It was a fascinating book. Does anyone out there know whatever happened to her ??? I'd be interested to know if she is still married to Robert.

Comments: Dear Sir or Madam,
I am an award winning illustrator and animator withtwenty years experience in advertising, graphic design, education and journalism. I currently produce a variety ofanimation for the web from humourous little greeting cardswith east African themes to more elaborate educationalpresentations, such as the watershed interactivepresentation to be found athttp://www.markgiles.com/bcw/karst.html.
After living in Kenya on various occasions throughout mylife, I have acquired an immense passion for the country, the people, and of course the animals. Two years ago I lefta great job in the city and moved to a remote Ozark forestto concentrate on more important issues such as wildlifeconservation. I would very much like to offer my services tothe betterment of Kenya in any way I can. My ideal would beto trade my Kenyan based animated presentations in exchangefor a visit there. I could easily produce onsite dailyanimated shorts such as the ones at Care2.com ( http://www.care2.com/send/categories/artists/1342) amongmany other potential ideas. I know, for instance, that Icould easily produce the kind of fun school orientededucational flash movies found at www.brainpop.com, butwould prefer to see a Kenyan wildlife conservation themethroughout. I am also aware of the many concerns regardingtourism and education within Kenya and feel sure that myskills could be used to great effect and better education.
Please take a moment to offer any advice or refer me to asource where I could see my skills and conservation effortsput to better use in Kenya.

Some Kenya inspired greeting cards:

They are just like us only in a different shaped body. They are kind, gentle, intelligent and are basically just incredible creatures. I can't wait to see them roaming free out in the wild.

Comments: My favourite East African animal is the human being (two-legged animal) who is never mentioned or noticed by tour promoters and visitors alike. It's like visiting New York city and never paying any attention to the New Yorkers (the people), as if New York is made of up a concrete jungle with no real human beings living within the city and around it. Or touring the Yellow Stone National Park without learning any worthwhile historical facts about the natives that once lived there before they were driven out for the sake of tourism and the mighty dollar. No wonder many Europeans and North Americans still assume that Tarzan discovered Africa and his family (progenies) still reside in the same cinematic imagery created by the western flim industry for the outside viewers. By the way, can the Kenyan or East African wildlife speak Kiswahili or understand the useful Swahili words and phrases that appear on the site? Have the animals been introduced to the swahili language as yet? Lastly, besides exploiting the wild game and the local people, what have you done lately for the animals, the environment and the local people? Are you still exploiting them in the name of tourism (utalii), your perpetual lies that tourism is a major earner of revenue, foreign exchange for the country, and the people (Kenyans, Ugandans, Tanzanians) benefit a great deal from the tourism industry? How about publishing a tourism anthem that sings the praises of how good it is to exploit the animals and people in the name tourism and the almighty dollar or euro! Shame on those whose main and only objective is to exploit the country and its people no matter what their justification may be. SHAME ON THEM! SHAME ON THEM ALL! If they are up to anything good, then let the native Maasai people run the game reserves the same way the native American Indians run casinos and other business and property that is found within their homelands (nations). Why the double standards? Because, what's good for the goose is good for the gander as well. Keep on trading the Tarzan imagery to the outside world, while at the same time never bothering about the damage being done to the natives and the general animal population.

Comments: I have a question the I really need answered for a school project. I'm supposed to find the written language (ALPHABET) of Tanzania. I know their language is Swahili but I need to know if their letters or alphabet differs from the english language or if it's the same. Answer: The Kiswahili alphabet consists of 24 letters, lacking the letters Q and X.

Comments: I really like this site. It was brief and had many useful words. One day, I hope to become a veterinarian and move to Kenya. At the age of 16, I thought I could start early and learn some Swahili now :) ! Just thought I'd let you know that this site was pretty cool. Maybe you could add some phrases or pictures. Other than that, I really enjoyed it.- Michelle :)
